TinglyTube Changelog | October 2020

Hey there, and welcome to our October 2020 Changelog!

We publish one of these notices/changelogs monthly so you know what has changed on TinglyTube over the last month, from features getting added to bugs being fixed, we'll list it all! But if you want to see these updates in realtime, you can check our profile wall as we sometimes post similar updates there, or check our Statuspage to see our current server status and any ongoing/past incidents, you can also follow our Twitter if you want, we're pretty active on there.

And now presenting our October 2020 Changelog!

  • Show/Hide Password feature added to the signup and edit profile page so you don’t get your password wrong.
  • Username input on the signup page now limits you to fifteen alphanumeric characters and no-spaces so you’ll be able to pick a valid username the first time around.
  • "Change password" inputs on the edit profile page no longer autofill on most browsers, so you won't accidentally trigger a password change when you try to edit your profile information and hit 'save'.
  • User profile pictures are no longer cached (temporarily saved) on our servers, this way, they will instantly change when you upload a new one.
  • Appeals form introduced so users can now appeal various different policy enforcement actions, such as video removals or account suspensions.
  • Most images on TinglyTube now use lazy loading (don't load until you actually scroll to them) to save precious loading time, especially on mobile devices.
  • “Print” option removed from the share video menu, because who in their right mind is going to print out the video viewing page?!
  • TinglyTube is now registered as an online service provider with the US Copyright Office so that we now have 100% full safe-harbor protection against any copyright infringing content that our users may upload or link to.
  • TinglyTube is now legally TinglyTube Media, LLC. a Michigan limited liability company with the ID number 802539685.
  • Swapped out the boring, pixel-restricted, PNG version of our website logo with a new SVG one! SVGs don't have pixels, but instead are made using math, lines, and shapes, so they look perfect at any size! Including on a t-shirt or mug ;)
  • The video upload progress bar is now animated with stripes!
  • The maximum video file size increased to a full 2.99gb.
  • Our main server upgraded yet again! With more memory, storage space, and better connection speed! This will be the last upgrade we do for a while!
Well, that's about everything we did in October 2020, so thanks for reading, and we hope to add many more features in the future to make your experience better! If you have any feedback, feature requests, or found a bug, don't hesitate to let us know via our Support/Feedback form.

TinglyTube Changelog | September 2020

Hey there, and welcome to our September 2020 Changelog!

We got
significantly more stuff done than we did in August, so buckle up as we present our September 2020 Changelog!

  • Added 'Send Feedback' button to the uploading page, so you can send feedback regarding the uploading process, or report any problems with it, right from the uploading page! More info here.
  • Sign-Up/Login with Facebook feature added. This allows you to create a new TT account using your FB profile, or link your existing TT account with your FB profile.
  • Subscribe button changes to grey on click when you subscribe, signifying that you're subscribed, without needing the page to reload or be refreshed.
  • Got AT&T to unblock our servers' IP address, which was caused by bad-actors who had our IP address before us, who were sending spam. Users with AT&T owned/affiliated email addresses now receive email notifications from us.
  • You'll now receive a notification email when someone comments on your wall.
  • Upgraded our main server with more RAM/Memory (16gb) and Storage-space (400gb, 100% SSD) to handle more concurrent video uploads and users (better to plan for the future, and be safe, then sorry :)
  • New shortlink of tingly.tube added, for a total of three shortlinks (tinglytu.be, tingles.cc, & tingly.tube).
  • Donate via PayPal page added, which allows you to donate any amount you feel to us, which will greatly help us in continuing to operate TinglyTube for years to come :)
  • "Claim a Custom Shortlink" feature added that allows all TinglyTube users to claim a custom shortlink that leads directly to their TT profile, using one of three shortlinks currently available. More info here!
  • Community Standards introduced, which are just an extension of the acceptable use clause in our Terms and Conditions. They outline what behavior is acceptable on TinglyTube, and how we handle it.
  • Video uploading FREE and OPEN to all! You no longer need to submit a form and wait for us to unlock uploading permissions for your account, all you need to do is verify your email address if you haven't already. So... why not upload something tingly?! ;) -> https://www.tinglytube.com/upload/video
Well, thanks for reading our changelog for September, and we hope to add many more features in the future to make your experience better! If you have any feedback, feature requests, or found a bug, don't hesitate to let us know via our Support/Feedback form.

Introducing our new Community Standards + Video uploading permissions enabled for all!

Today, we introduced our new set of Community Standards, which describes what behavior is not allowed on TinglyTube and how we take action when our Community Standards are violated.

Now we'd like to make it clear that the introduction of our Community Standards doesn't present any new policies or changes to policies, they are only an extension of the acceptable use clause in our Terms and Conditions.

Part of the reason why we decided to introduce Community Standards is so that we can enable video uploading for all users, that way we have a consistent set of policies and actions for uploaded content... and since they've now been put in place... video uploading has been enabled sitewide! You'll no longer need to submit a form and wait for us to respond!

To upload, you'll need to confirm your email address (this is to help prevent spam-bots from uploading), to see if your email address has been confirmed, all you need to do is to click on the "UPLOAD" button (in the top right corner of the navigation bar on PC, and in the hamburger menu (the box with the three-lines) on mobile), if your email address isn't confirmed yet, you'll be redirected to the page shown below:

Just enter the email address you first registered with and you'll receive an email like the one below:

Now click the confirmation link (or copy-and-paste it in your browser if it's not clickable) and your email address is now confirmed and you're ready to upload your first video!

If you've already confirmed your email address, you'll be taken straight to the uploading page, where you can upload your video.

Now, if you want in-depth instructions on how to upload a video, you can read this help article.

Claim a Custom Shortlink for your TinglyTube profile!

At TinglyTube, we love shortlinks. That's why we currently have three of them:

tinglytu.be (The first one we registered in May)
tingles.cc
tingly.tube (Haven't heard of this one? That's because it's our newest!)

In June and July when we started unlocking video uploading permissions for more and more users, we gave all of them a custom tinglytu.be shortlink, and are happy to announce that all TinglyTube users can now claim a custom shortlink using one of the three we currently have, but some of you may be wondering what a custom shortlink is and how it works: a custom shortlink is a branded, shortened URL that leads right to your TinglyTube profile, making it easier for you to link your profile on other platforms, and even easier for your viewers to check out your profile!

It takes the long URL that leads to your TT profile, such as tinglytube.com/user/TinglyTube, and turns it into a much shorter URL, such as tingly.tube/tinglytube, which just redirects to your profile.

Now here's how you can claim one, right now!

Make sure your email address is verified/confirmed, only users with verified email addresses will be able to claim a custom shortlink, so if you haven't yet verified your email address, you can quickly do it by going to https://www.tinglytube.com/confirm and following the instructions there.

After you've verified your email address, or if you've already verified it, go to "Edit Profile" by using the dropdown menu in the top-right of the website on PC, or by tapping the 'person' icon on Mobile.

On PC:

On Mobile:

Once on the edit profile page, click on the "Custom Shortlink" button on the menu, on mobile, tap the "Personal" button and use the dropdown menu.

On PC:

On Mobile:

You'll then be taken to the "Claim a Custom Shortlink" page, here is where you will claim your custom shortlink! Just fill in your username, and select the shortlink you would like, and hit "Submit"!

As it says on the page, you'll receive an email once your shortlink has been successfully created, this is because we must manually create it. We plan on making this automatic in the future, but for now it must be done manually, but don't worry, your custom shortlink should be created in less than 24-hours, but may take longer if our team is swamped with other stuff.

Custom Shortlink FAQs:

How many shortlinks can I have?
You can can have only one shortlink, and can change it a maximum of once per year. (Contact us via our Support/Feedback form to change it).

Do I have to use my username? Does capitalization matter?
Yes, you must use your username. This is to allow each user to have a custom shortlink and to keep it fair. Capitalization doesn't matter as your shortlink will be created in all lowercase.

Can I have my shortlink go to another part of my profile, like my videos or blog entries?
Not currently at this time.

How to flag content, users, and comments on TinglyTube.

We aim to make and keep TinglyTube a safe and peaceful community, free of bullying, harassment, and spam. That's why we allow any registered TinglyTube user to flag other users, comments, content, etc. to our staff for 24/7 review.

This help article will walk you through how to flag a variety of content on TinglyTube, now let's get started!

Flagging Users

You can flag other users by going to their TinglyTube profile and tapping the three-dots which will open a dropdown menu where you can select "Report User" and select the reason why you are flagging them and hit the "Submit" button (If they are bullying and/or harassing you, we suggest blocking them as well until we review the flag).

Flagging Comments (Video, Blog, and Wall)

You can flag a variety of comments types (Video, Blog, and Wall) by hovering over the comments and tapping the three-dots, then selecting "Report Spam", don't worry if the comment isn't spam, if it really shouldn't be on TinglyTube, we should be able to see and read that clearly.

Flagging Video Content

You can flag video content by tapping the "Flag" button under the video and then selecting the reason you are flagging the video and then hit the "Submit" button.

Flagging Other Types of Content

At this time, some content, such as blogs and private messages, cannot be reported, in the case you wish to report content which does not have a flag button for it, you can report it to us via our Support/Feedback form (be sure to send it to the "Trust and Safety/Violations" department!).

Before flagging content, users, or comments, please have a look at our Community Standards, which outlines what behavior is not accepted on TinglyTube, users who submit multiple ‘false flags’ (Falsely reporting content on purpose) will have their account suspended.

If you have any questions regarding flagging, contact us via our Support/Feedback form (select ‘Trust and Safety’ as the department) or email us at tns@support.tinglytube.com.
